The history of Social Dance reflects the
elegance of the 15th –19th century European Regal culture
through the fast paced vitality of 20th century American popular
culture. Each era reflects the changing relationships between
men and women through our cultural heritage. The 2-Volume set
includes 60 well-known musical selections, 100 elaborate period
fashions within 38 dances, and is performed by the award winning
dance company Dance Through Time.
The DVD format utilizes the latest DVD technology: DANCETIME
DVD! contains over 600 original source documents as
well as historical timelines for each era. Slow
motion capabilities allow the viewer to control the medium.
These DVDs are an amazing tool for the most demanding historian

the first historical dance instructional video giving clear “How
-To” instructions to help viewers learn to dance the basic
steps of the five most popular 19th century couple dances: the

The Elegance of Baroque Social
Dance (VOLUME IV) features the most influential social
dances of the French Baroque Court. of the 18th century. The
renowned Minuet is demonstrated with step and floor pattern
detail. The complicated handholds of the Allemande are carefully
delineated. The intricate patterns of the Contredance are brought
to life by eight dancers. |

| Victorian Era Couple Dances (VOLUME
V) continues the tradition of The Romance of Mid-19th Century
Couple Dances. The viewer re-visits the classic 19th century
couple dances in order to explore 32 innovative step variations,
which were added in the last part of the century. The Waltz flourished
with turning embellishments; the Polka developed
whimsical variations; the Galop rose to a new
level of expertise; and the Mazurka blossomed
into virtuoso displays. |

| A 19th Century Ball: The Charm of
Group Dances (VOLUME VI) reveals the interplay of the
flirtatious group dances in the ballroom. The Grand March is
the elegant ceremonial opening to the Ball. The popular Lancers
Quadrille, a square dance, is rich with geometric patterns.
The famous Cotillon figures enable dancers to
flirt, while playing improvisational dancing games. |

from the first part of the 20th century in the United States.
It provides a nostalgic history lesson that features a fascinating
record of our changing dance styles and reflects our culture
through the years. This dance retrospective spans the panorama
from average Americans dancing in newsreels to top quality
performers who have left a legacy (such as Irene & Vernon
Castle and Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers). This 20th century
film collection opens with wild cakewalk/animal dance fads;
moves through the effervescent Blackbottom and Charleston of
the 1920s; sinks to the Dance Marathons of the 1930s; and explodes
into the vibrant Lindy Hop/Jitterbug of the 1940s. This is

An exciting new video, DANCE VIVALDI: A Contemporary
Baroque Ballet presents a fascinating modern
expression of the great tradition of 17th century French Baroque
dance.. Choreographer Marie-Geneviève Massé dissolves
the boundaries between past and present, blending delicate
French Baroque technique with the vibrant motion of contemporary
dance. As traditional boundaries are eliminated, a new movement
merger is introduced. Vivaldi’s The Four
Seasons is featuredin sensitive synchronization, the dancers'
movements reflect the musical themes. The performing Company,
EVENTAIL, (Compagnie l'Eventail), is sponsored by the
French government as an organization that preserves the French
Baroque heritage. |

Folies d’Espagne from
Page to Stage explores the elements that
enable us to better understand the historical preservation
of dance, from the academic page to its transformation
into a vibrant performance.
Through viewing Folies d’Espagne,
the viewer can trace 5 important elements of Baroque dance: dance
notation, treatment of space, arm embellishments,
relation to music, and interpretation of the dancer. The multi-faceted
interpretation offers the viewer valuable insight into the
artistic stages which develop a dance performance. By viewing
the re-creation of this one Baroque dance, the public will
be able to uncover the secrets of the interpretation of a dance,
discover its beauty, better understand the elegance and virtuosity
of the French Baroque style, and enter into the world of the
very close relationship that existed between dance and music
in the 17th century. |
